The Northwoods is really lucky to have 17+ official bikepacking routes across The Nxrth, bikepacking.com, and Bikepacking Roots. It's a special region with deep, dense, expansive forests, endless miles of gravel roads, and the most lakes and rivers anywhere in the lower 48. Here we share a few more beautiful nooks of the Northwoods that we'd love to see get an official bikepacking route.

How did we ever plan bikepacking trips before bikepacking.com was a thing?
I remember randomly picking areas of the state of Wisconsin based on zero intel and nobody's first hand experience whatsoever.
I then purchased sets of bike maps from the Wisconsin Bike Federation and planned routes along as many of the predetermined "bike friendly" lines on the map as possible.
There weren't really any goods ways to find great camping spots beyond state and county parks. There was no Airbnb or Hipcamp although there was Warm Showers which is still an invaluable and amazing global network for free places to stay in cyclists yards.
Aside from that, every bikepacking or bike touring trip was a big risk full questions you simply couldn't answer until your wheels hit the ground and you actually committed to an an unvetted route.
